Efterklang

On Friday I went to see the lovely Efterklang in Manchester and it was such a beautiful evening that I had to write about it. This won’t be a concert review though. I rather want to recommend a film to you that Efterklang did together with filmmaker Vincent Moon. The movie is called “An Island” and was shown on Friday before the gig, instead of a support act.

It is quite a stunning and beautifully shot movie and especially the scene in the teaser you can watch below gave me goosebumps for at least 5 minutes.

I then found out yesterday that the same movie is getting screened all over the world at the moment and that everyone can screen it as long as he/she gets at least five people together and lets them watch it for free. I think this is such a great idea that I had to recommend it. Of course you can still go to one of the Efterklang gigs as they are still touring but if not please go to this website and check whether there’s a screening near you.

Because of the website I found out yesterday that there was another screening in Manchester last night, so I went down there to watch it again. They also showed a little road documentary that was really quite cute.

I think I might be a little obsessed with them right now. They seem like such a nice bunch of people with a lot of love for what they do. So please go and watch or go and listen. Either way, you will enjoy it. I promise.

I just had a look on my calender. It is the 28th. Which means, we got back from our trip to Berlin exactly one month ago. This means also that it took me a whole month to organise and upload these pictures, which must be a new record. I am sorry. I am just too busy at the moment, being in my last semester. Everything will be better in May. At least that’s what I keep telling myself. And if I don’t do that I just pretend I’m still in holiday.

I just came across a very beautiful video of one of my favourite overtures played by the Berliner Philharmoniker in 1950. I remember listening to it in class when I must have been around 12 or 13 years old. I had to rush down the CD store the same day with my dad to find it, spend my pocket money on it and then I must have listened to it over and over again in my bedroom for days. I now know this piece by heart and it still gives me goosebumps but seeing this video just now left me speechless. Therefore I needed to share. Please give it a chance.

This made me laugh out loud on the bus the other morning.

I had suffered a hot and bothered exchange in my first French lesson, for example, when I was told that the French for ‘Oh’ was ‘Ah!’
‘Then how do they say “Oh”, sir?’
‘They say “Ah.” ‘
‘Well then, how do they say “Ah”?’
‘Don’t be stupid, Fry.’

This is not the first time I took a disposable camera out but this is the first time I decided one should be with me all day long. I am so careful with the rest of my cameras that I thought I should at least carry these little single-use wonders around with me in case i find myself in one of these i-wish-i-had-a-camera-on-me-moments. There has been a few of these lately. So here is part one of a new series.
