around around auvergne

Posted in out by nicky on 25. November 2009

Some of us Erasmus students were invited by our french friends to go on a little day trip. Mainly because they’ve got cars and we don’t. But also because they wanted to show us what lies beyond the city we’re in. We started off in a supermarket in Clermont where we bought some food and then set off in 4 cars from there towards Saint-Nectaire. It’s a small little village with a beautiful roman church and an amazing cheese. After that we drove down to Lac Chambon which almost took my breath away. Mountains topped with a little bit of snow, autumn sun and a massive lake that made me realise once again how much i miss the water. We had a little picnic down there before we drove off to an old castle called Château Murol. The views were amazing and our tourguide was pretty special too. After all it was unbelievably nice to be out in the country again. Mountains, Lakes, Castles, Cheese…what more could you really ask for on a sunny Saturday?

sunday

So Pia had that idea to go up the Puy-de-Dôme on our bikes. I had my doubts that we would make it up a 1465m high vulcano but went along because it was such a nice autumn day. However, we didn’t make it. Not even half way. But we found a great park instead and soaked up some fresh air at least. Perfect Sunday for that.

when in Lyon

So we went to Lyon for 2 days to meet an old friend and to see a bit of what does not only seem to be the second biggest city in France. It was windy, it was cold but stunning. We went to the Musée Des Beaux Arts as well which had an excebition on about Picasso, Bacon, Chagall, Dubuffet and many others. Days well spent.
